This disease began in anyone with swellings in the groin or armpit. The swellings grew to the size of an apple or an egg and were called tumours. After a short time the swellings spread all over the body and turned purple or black . These spots were a certain sign of death.

YERSINA PESTIS
The cause of the Plague was a bacteria called Yersina pestis. This was only discovered some 500 years after the plague. Depending on how the Yersina pestis bacteria came in contact with a person it attacked the body in three different forms.
